Jazz vocalist and songwriter Sylvia Brooks has released her latest single, “Soul Eyes,” a soulful interpretation of Mal Waldron’s classic jazz composition.
The song serves as a preview of Brooks’ upcoming sixth album, Soliloquy, which explores different sides of the human experience through a blend of jazz standards and original compositions.
On “Soul Eyes,” Brooks brings an intimate and emotionally rich vocal performance to the timeless song, exploring vulnerability, love and the courage it takes to allow someone into your life on a deeper level.
Brooks is joined by acclaimed pianist, arranger and longtime collaborator Christian Jacob, whose arrangement gives the recording an elegant and contemporary jazz feel while preserving the emotional character of the original.
The forthcoming album also features bassist Kevin Axt, drummer and percussionist Kevin Winard, guitarist Grant Geissman, and saxophonist Farzin Farhadi.
With “Soul Eyes,” Sylvia Brooks offers listeners an early glimpse into an album centered on love, heartbreak, resilience, compassion and the many experiences that shape our lives.
