Nigerian Afro-fusion artist Manuwa returns with “Super Power,” a soulful Afro-R&B standout from his newly released Sad Boys EP. Blending live acoustic guitar, warm Afrobeats percussion, and an intimate vocal performance, the track offers a softer and more emotionally driven side of contemporary African music.
“Super Power” explores emotional vulnerability through the metaphor of love as an irresistible force. Built around a falsetto-led hook and a late-night atmosphere, the song captures the feeling of being completely drawn to someone whose presence feels almost supernatural.
At the heart of the record is a simple yet striking confession: the overwhelming realization of falling for someone all over again. Manuwa delivers the sentiment with a restrained performance that allows the emotion and instrumentation to take center stage.
Recorded at VDM Studios in Benin City, “Super Power” came together through a spontaneous studio moment. When Manuwa first performed the song, producer J4F4 R quickly set up a microphone and plugged in the singer’s semi-acoustic guitar to capture the live performance as it happened.
“We actually had to restart the recording a few times because the guitar wasn’t sitting right. But when everyone in the studio heard the song, the reaction was instant. They just wanted to capture that raw moment,” Manuwa recalls.
Produced by J4F4 R and mixed and mastered by Igodan, the track showcases Manuwa’s versatility as both a songwriter and performer. He leans into the Afro-R&B sound while maintaining the emotional storytelling that continues to define his artistry.
“I wrote ‘Super Power’ trying to create something that would make someone pause what they’re doing and ask, ‘Who is this artist?’ I wanted it to sound unique and also show my versatility,” says Manuwa.
“Super Power” continues the sonic and thematic direction of Manuwa’s Sad Boys EP, a project centered on love, longing, vulnerability, and the emotional realities of modern romance.
The EP arrives amid growing recognition for Manuwa, including playlist support on New Music Friday Nigeria and New Music Friday Ghana, alongside coverage from Nigerian media outlets including The Guardian Nigeria and Pulse Nigeria.
With “Super Power,” Manuwa offers an intimate and melodic expression of love, combining organic instrumentation with contemporary Afrobeats sensibilities to create a record that speaks to the vulnerability and intensity of falling deeply for someone.
