Behind the production is a musician with decades of experience across different sides of the music business. Washington, DC native Garrett Chazz Oliver, professionally known as Chazz Oliver or Chazz O, began his musical journey at six years old when his father bought him his first drum set.
His musical curiosity quickly expanded beyond drums. Oliver taught himself piano, bass guitar, lead guitar and saxophone, and by his teenage years he was already composing music and experimenting with multitrack recording equipment. Before graduating from high school in 1984, he had the opportunity to work briefly with R&B producer Kashif.
Another major chapter arrived in the mid-1990s when Oliver crossed paths with legendary producer Nile Rodgers. After several encounters, Rodgers invited him to Westport, Connecticut, where they worked together on the 1996 album “Chic Freak and More Treats.” Oliver subsequently became involved in Rodgers’ work and earned co-producing credits on projects involving artists including All-4-One, Paula Abdul, Q-Tip and Samantha Cole.
His career eventually expanded into the executive side of the music industry. In 1999, Oliver became VP of Music Programming for AEI Music Networks in Seattle, where he helped introduce songs from artists including Morcheeba, Lenny Kravitz, Sarah Brightman, The Cardigans and Sixpence None the Richer into commercial environments.
In 2007, Oliver brought his creative and executive experience together by establishing ISMRecordings in Norwalk, Connecticut. The company became a platform for developing artists while also allowing Oliver to continue working with musicians across different genres.
He has since remained active as both a producer and creative force, working with artists including Omar Wilson, Rain E. Day, Zen, Ju$t AM, Lou Big’z, Jackie Legere, Lamboginny and Lamone. His own releases have also included tracks such as “Love” featuring Taj Dyami and “Set Me Free,” while more recent collaborations have continued to expand his catalogue.
That experience feeds directly into “Wiggle,” where Oliver brings his polished production style to a record designed for immediate impact.
