Puerto Rican singer-songwriter Randy Nota Loca continues his solo journey with “Playa,” a new release connected to his album Romance de Una Nota 3, highlighting the melodic and romantic sensibilities that have shaped his career.
Known for his smooth vocals and versatility, Randy has built a distinctive musical identity across reggaeton, R&B, and Latin urban music. His latest release continues a journey that has seen him balance the energy of urban music with a softer, more melodic approach.
Born Randy Ariel Ortiz Acevedo on July 16, 1983, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Randy began his musical career in 2001 as a church choir singer. His early experiences helped shape the slow, melodic vocal delivery that would later become a defining feature of his sound. Influenced by mainstream artists such as The Jackson 5 and Lionel Richie, he developed a style that blends soulful expression with contemporary urban rhythms.
Randy rose to prominence as one half of Jowell & Randy, the influential reggaeton duo whose music helped establish their place in Latin urban music. More than two decades into their partnership, the duo continues to release music and perform for audiences around the world.
Alongside that success, Randy has developed a solo catalogue that explores his more romantic and experimental side. His solo debut album, Roses & Wines, arrived in 2015 and featured collaborations with artists including Arcangel, De La Ghetto, Álvaro Díaz, Vinny Rivera and Ken-Y. The project showcased his ability to move between different musical styles while maintaining the smooth vocal character that distinguishes his performances.
In 2017, he followed up with Romances de una Nota Vol. 1, a project that explored bachata, reggaeton, and hip-hop. Featuring songs such as “Loquita,” the album further established his interest in romantic melodies and expanded the musical direction he would continue developing through his subsequent releases.
That creative evolution leads into Romance de Una Nota 3, Randy’s latest album, with “Playa” serving as a new release from the project. The single adds another chapter to his solo catalogue, reinforcing his commitment to exploring the melodic side of Latin urban music while continuing to build on the legacy of his work with Jowell & Randy.
With years of experience spanning reggaeton, R&B and romantic Latin music, Randy Nota Loca remains an artist whose career reflects both the foundations of the genre and his willingness to explore different creative directions.
“Playa” continues that journey, bringing renewed attention to Romance de Una Nota 3 and Randy’s enduring identity as a vocalist who moves comfortably between urban energy and melodic expression.
