Ghanaian rapper M.anifest has weighed in on one of the music industry’s most divisive conversations, making it clear that while he embraces technology, he draws the line when artificial intelligence replaces human creativity in music.
Speaking during a recent appearance on Woezor TV, the award-winning lyricist explained that his concerns are not about AI itself but about how it is being used in the creative process.
According to M.anifest, AI should serve as a tool that supports artists rather than becoming the artist.
“I’m not trying to downplay it. It’s good for a lot of things, maybe for your show and similar uses. But I’m against it when it comes to the creative side,” he said. “Use AI for things like production. But making songs with prompts? That’s terrible. You should be ashamed of yourself.”
The rapper emphasized that there is a clear difference between using AI to improve production workflows and relying on it to generate entire songs without meaningful human input.
“I have no problem with music where people use AI tools to help create. Technology is technology, and you have to use it,” he explained. “If you’re making a film and you need AI to help with colour grading or other production tools, that’s fine. But the idea of using AI to create everything from start to finish, I’m against it.”
Rather than advocating for a ban on AI-generated music, M.anifest believes listeners should be given the freedom to decide what they consume through greater transparency.
“I think there should be freedom of choice. If you like AI music, that’s fine. But it should be identified as such,” he said.
Drawing a comparison to the Parental Advisory labels that once warned listeners about explicit content, he suggested streaming services should clearly identify AI-generated music so audiences can make informed choices.
“When I was younger, music with explicit lyrics carried a ‘Parental Advisory’ label. In the same way, they should tell us if it’s an AI artiste. Then you have the option to decide if you like it or not.”

M.anifest also proposed that streaming platforms go a step further by allowing users to filter AI-generated music from their recommendations and playlists, saying it is a feature he would personally use.
His remarks come as the global music industry continues to grapple with the rapid rise of generative AI. Record labels, streaming platforms, artists, and regulators are all debating how AI-created music should be disclosed, distributed, and distinguished from human-made works.
For M.anifest, however, the issue ultimately comes down to preserving artistic integrity. While he welcomes technology that enhances creativity, he believes music should remain rooted in genuine human expression rather than being entirely generated from prompts.
