The “King of Cape Verdean Pop” celebrates the evolution of Caboswing with a new album and a major concert at Coliseu dos Recreios.

After more than three decades of music and a lasting influence on Cape Verdean diaspora culture, Gil Semedo is entering a new chapter with the release of his highly anticipated album, “Caboswing: The New Chapter.”

Widely recognized as the “King of Cape Verdean Pop” and regarded as the creator of the Caboswing genre, Gil Semedo has spent nearly 35 years developing a distinctive musical identity that connects Cape Verdean traditions with global sounds including pop, R&B, zouk and ragga muffin.

With more than one million records sold and landmark albums such as Verdadi, Nos Lider and Dedicaçon, Semedo’s music has become an important part of the Lusophone musical landscape, exploring themes of love, resilience, cultural identity and Creole pride.

“Caboswing: The New Chapter” represents an ambitious continuation of the musical movement Gil Semedo helped establish.

The album brings together artists from different generations and corners of the Lusophone world, featuring collaborations with prominent names including Dino d’Santiago, DJ Nays and Tó Semedo.

One of the project’s most personal moments comes through a collaboration with his daughter, Melodia. The recording marks the first time father and daughter have officially recorded together, creating a symbolic meeting point between family legacy, heritage and the next generation.

The album also features a new generation of producers, including GSpro, Motamorphasis, Young Max and RJ, further expanding the sonic possibilities of Caboswing.

Rather than simply looking back, the project presents Caboswing as a living sound, one capable of continuing to evolve while connecting cultures and generations.

The concert will bring together songs from across his extensive catalogue alongside new material from Caboswing: The New Chapter, offering audiences an opportunity to experience his musical journey in a live setting.

The performance is set to celebrate Cape Verdean culture, history and the enduring connection between Gil Semedo and generations of listeners.

Throughout his career, Gil Semedo has continued to evolve rather than remain defined by his past achievements. His latest project embraces collaboration across generations, bringing established voices together with emerging musicians, producers and performers.

That intergenerational approach gives Caboswing renewed energy while preserving its foundation as a meeting point for Cape Verdean culture and international musical influences.

For Semedo, music has always been about more than commercial success. It has been a way to connect people, preserve identity and create bridges between communities across continents.

“My music is a bridge between who we were and who we can become. The stage is my home, and the audience is my family.”

The release marks another milestone in Gil Semedo’s career while continuing the evolution of a musical movement that has connected generations of Cape Verdeans and listeners around the world.
