German DJ and producer DJ Katch has reworked D’banj’s iconic hit ‘Oliver Twist’ into a high-energy club remix, bringing the familiar Afrobeats record into a new dancefloor setting. The official remix is out now via Cinq Music across digital streaming platforms, available in both Main Mix and Extended Mix versions.
Originally created as a bootleg for his own DJ sets, DJ Katch’s rework quickly became one of his favourite records to play during live performances. After Nigerian superstar D’banj heard the version and responded positively, the two turned the idea into an official remix, giving the producer the opportunity to bring his club-focused interpretation to a wider audience.
“‘Oliver Twist’ has always been one of those records that sets a dance floor on fire, so I made a bootleg of it for my own DJ sets. It quickly became one of my favourite moments to drop. When D’banj heard it and loved it, we turned it into the official remix, which is a real honour for me,” DJ Katch explains.
For the new version, the producer retains D’banj’s recognisable vocals and memorable hook while building a punchier electronic arrangement around them. The result is a festival-ready interpretation designed for peak-time club moments, connecting the original song’s familiar appeal with DJ Katch’s energetic approach to dance music.
The release comes in two formats to serve different listening environments. The Main Mix offers a direct club rework for general listeners, while the Extended Mix gives DJs additional room to work the track into their sets.
DJ Katch brings considerable experience to the remix. The multi-platinum producer and club DJ has built an international reputation through releases including ‘The Horns’ and ‘Lights Out (Too Drunk)’, his collaboration with HAYLA, which has surpassed 50 million Spotify streams and earned platinum certifications in Sweden and Norway.
His work also extends into mainstream pop and dance music. DJ Katch co-wrote ‘Takeaway’ by The Chainsmokers and has collaborated with artists across different genres, including dancehall star Beenie Man and US rapper N.O.R.E. He also produced ‘Show Me How To Love’, a top-ten single by British artist Example.
His solo release ‘You’re Makin’ Me High’, released through dance music label Selected, has also attracted significant attention, surpassing 30 million Spotify plays according to the supplied release information.
Among his best-known records, ‘The Horns’ has travelled across international club circuits, from New York and London to Dubai, Ibiza, Tokyo and Miami. The track has also reached the top of viral charts in several countries, including Italy and the Philippines, helping establish DJ Katch as a producer with an international dancefloor presence.
With performances in more than 40 countries, DJ Katch has developed a style shaped by his understanding of urban dance music, turntablism and live performance. His experience spans clubs, festivals and underground venues, giving him a practical understanding of how to adapt records for different audiences.
That background informs his approach to ‘Oliver Twist’. Rather than replacing the elements that made D’banj’s original so recognisable, DJ Katch uses the vocal and hook as the foundation for a more electronic, club-driven arrangement.
The official remix brings together two different musical worlds, giving a familiar Afrobeats hit a fresh setting for DJs and dance music fans. With both Main Mix and Extended Mix versions now available, DJ Katch’s reimagining of ‘Oliver Twist’ offers a new way to experience one of D’banj’s signature records.
