Multiple award-winning Ghanaian singer and songwriter King Promise, born Gregory Promise Bortey Newman, chose to mark the eve of his birthday with a day focused on community, giving and youth empowerment rather than the usual birthday celebrations.
Ahead of his birthday on August 16, King Promise partnered with Akwaaba Volunteers NGO, with support from Ecobank Ghana, for a series of activities aimed at supporting underprivileged children across Accra.
The celebrations began on Saturday, August 15, with an early morning run alongside 7 Even Run Club and members of Akwaaba Volunteers NGO. The run brought together supporters and fans while drawing attention to the organization’s work with vulnerable young people in Ghana.
Later that evening, the singer joined underprivileged children for a Padel session organized in partnership with Akwaaba Volunteers NGO. Beyond the sporting activity, the gathering created an opportunity for the children to connect, have fun and enjoy a memorable experience surrounded by supporters of the initiative.
King Promise also made a GH₵30,000 donation to support the children and the continued work of Akwaaba Volunteers NGO. The contribution forms part of his decision to use his birthday as an opportunity to give back to the community that has supported his journey as an artist.
The day’s activities received additional support from Ecobank Ghana, King Promise’s brand ambassador partner, highlighting the bank’s continued involvement in community-focused initiatives.
“Turning a year older is a blessing, and I wanted to spend it giving back to the community that has given me so much love,” King Promise said. “Running with 7 Even Run Club and spending the evening on the Padel court with these kids reminded me what this day is really about, showing up for others.”
Akwaaba Volunteers NGO expressed its appreciation for King Promise’s contribution, emphasizing the importance of support that can help improve the lives and opportunities of underprivileged children in its care.
