Nigerian singer-songwriter and guitarist Emmi Edwin has released her new EP, Lavender Letters, led by the single “I Do.” The project captures her evolving Afro-Soul sound, bringing together personal experiences, heartfelt songwriting and soulful melodies.
Born in Akwa Ibom and based in Port Harcourt, Emmi Edwin developed her musical foundation in the church choir, where she learned the importance of melody and harmony. Those early influences continue to shape her sound, which combines guitar-led arrangements, gentle percussion and layered harmonies with intimate storytelling.
Her music draws from her Ibibio heritage and Southern Nigerian roots, exploring themes of love, healing, family, loneliness, courage and personal growth. Rather than relying on elaborate production, she creates space for her vocals and lyrics to take centre stage, allowing listeners to connect with the emotions behind each song.
The lead single, “I Do,” introduces listeners to the world of Lavender Letters, offering a glimpse into the personal reflections and soulful expression that define the project. Across the EP, Emmi brings together different emotions, balancing tenderness and vulnerability with moments of joy, love and intensity.
The release follows a growing catalogue that includes Ima (2026), Peace (2024), “One Day” (2023) and “Stay” (2023). Each release has contributed to her development as an artist, strengthening her identity as a songwriter whose music centres on lived experiences and emotional connection.
Beyond the studio, Emmi Edwin has performed at events including The Mayor of Pitakwa Show in 2025, Johnny’s Room Live and Female Founders Circle in 2024, and the PH Photo Festival in 2023. Her barefoot stage presence has also become a recognisable feature of her live performances.
As an artist in the CBA for Africa cohort, Emmi continues to grow her presence while drawing on her cultural background and personal experiences to shape her music. With Lavender Letters now available, the EP offers listeners another opportunity to experience her understated, guitar-led approach to Afro-Soul.
