Apple Music today announces Ghanaian-British artist D.H as the latest artist to be featured in its Up Next artist development programme in Ghana.
“It’s an honour to be chosen as my nation’s representative for Up Next Ghana,” D.H tells Apple Music. “I want to begin by paying homage to the city that raised me, Accra, while continuing to represent Ghana and the innovation coming out of our music industry.”
Born in Watford and operating between Accra and London, D.H is quickly establishing himself as one of the most exciting young artists bridging African and global music cultures. Deeply informed by his Ghanaian upbringing, his music fuses the intensity of trap with the rhythmic foundations of Afrobeats, creating a sound that feels equally at home across Ghana, the UK and the wider African diaspora.
Rather than following genre conventions, D.H approaches music as a space for experimentation, drawing from multiple trap subgenres alongside contemporary African influences to create a sound that is both cohesive and difficult to categorise. Defined by precision and restraint, his music balances understated confidence with emotional impact, while his fashion, visuals and creative direction extend the same artistic vision across every aspect of his work.
“I’ve always believed in the importance of evolution in music, blending and bending genres to create distinctive new sounds while still remaining reminiscent of the greats that inspired them,” he says. “That is what I try to do with my music. My sound channels both music coming out of the continent, Afrobeats, and the newer wave of Trap and Hip Hop, creating a sub-genre that reflects my artistic identity.”
With his forthcoming Hani Wo Ya EP on the horizon, he is poised to further showcase his genre-defying approach while cementing his place among a new generation of African artists redefining how local identity and global influence can coexist without compromise.
