Ghanaian-American musician Daniel Owusu, popularly known by his stage name SauceLord, has been crowned the winner of the Afro Pop Song of the Year USA category at the 2026 Ghana Music Awards USA (GMA-USA) with his song “Fatima.”
The recognition marks a significant milestone in SauceLord’s growing music career and places his work among the standout Ghanaian musical releases celebrated within the Ghanaian diaspora in the United States.
The award, presented at the 2026 GMA-USA ceremony, is captured on the official trophy as “Afro Pop Song of the Year USA,” with SauceLord’s name and Fatima engraved alongside the Ghana and United States flags.
The 2026 Ghana Music Awards USA took place on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at the Carnegie Center in Princeton, New Jersey, under the theme “Music for the Stars.” The event brought together Ghanaian musicians, industry stakeholders and music lovers to celebrate Ghanaian musical excellence in the diaspora.
SauceLord entered the 2026 awards season with a strong presence, earning nominations in several categories, including New Artist of the Year, Best Afro Pop Artiste, Male Vocalist of the Year and Afro Pop Song of the Year. His song Fatima was listed among the nominees for the latter category alongside works from Tokyo Yaw, Waliy AbouNamarr, Emperor T-Jiga, Jay Baba, Qpee Vibez, C Burn and others.
From 2019 beginnings to an award-winning moment
Born Daniel Owusu and professionally known as SauceLord, the Ghanaian-American artiste is based between Atlanta, Georgia, and New York City. His musical journey began in 2019, inspired by his brother and mentor figure Steve Opoku, popularly known as Nana Gstacks.
Since taking his music career seriously, SauceLord has continued to build his catalogue while developing a sound that draws from Afro-pop and contemporary African music.
His body of work includes songs such as “Fatima,” “Tuntum Broni,” “For The Streetz,” and “4oreign Gyal,” featuring King Passion, among other releases.
Fatima, which has now earned him the GMA-USA recognition, was released as part of SauceLord’s musical output in 2025. Music platforms list the song among his notable releases, while his Mixed Varieties EP was released in July 2025.
