Ghanaian rap heavyweight Sarkodie teams up with award-winning singer KiDi on “Deja Vu,” an emotional collaboration that explores heartbreak, regret, and the struggle to repair a relationship damaged by past mistakes. The single serves as the title track of Sarkodie’s upcoming five-track project, Deja Vu, scheduled for release on 27 November.

Blending rap, melodic vocals, and Ghanaian musical influences, the song finds Sarkodie stepping into the role of a man desperate for another chance with the woman he loves. Rather than shifting the blame, he acknowledges the pain he has caused and attempts to convince her that he is ready to make things right.

The song’s central refrain, “I don’t want no déjà vu again,” captures his fear of repeating the same mistakes. He wants to move beyond the damage of the past, but his pleas suggest that an apology alone may not be enough to restore what has been lost. The woman he addresses appears unwilling to make reconciliation easy, leaving him uncertain about whether she will ever forgive him.

Sarkodie brings that desperation into his verses through a mix of English, Twi, and Ghanaian Pidgin. He admits that he took her love for granted, recalling how she gave him peace and made him feel valued before his own actions hurt her. Now, with her no longer answering his calls, he turns to music as a way of expressing the remorse he has struggled to communicate directly.

One of the song’s most revealing moments comes when he reflects on the familiar truth that people often recognise the value of something only after losing it. His promises to be more careful, remain present and eventually make her his wife show that he is thinking beyond a temporary reunion. He wants the opportunity to rebuild the relationship and prove that his feelings are genuine.

KiDi provides the melodic counterweight to Sarkodie’s regret, bringing his smooth, expressive vocals to the hook. His performance gives the song its emotional centre, reinforcing the repeated plea for forgiveness while adding a softer dimension to the rapper’s account of heartbreak. The contrast between Sarkodie’s direct storytelling and KiDi’s melodic delivery helps carry the track’s mixture of guilt, longing and hope.

As the song progresses, Sarkodie moves from pleading for his lover to return to accepting responsibility for what happened. He acknowledges that he may not deserve another chance, but insists that he is willing to try. His desire to change is tied to the fear of losing someone he now understands to be important to his life.

That vulnerability gives “Deja Vu” a different perspective from a conventional love song built around attraction and romance. Here, love is presented as something that requires accountability, patience and the willingness to confront the consequences of one’s choices. The song does not guarantee that the relationship will be repaired. Instead, it captures the uncertainty of asking for forgiveness when the other person has every reason to walk away.

For Sarkodie, the single also offers a glimpse into the emotional territory of his forthcoming Deja Vu project. With five tracks planned for the release, the title song introduces listeners to a story shaped by remorse and the desire to avoid repeating painful experiences.
