Mr Eazi has teamed up with Ghanaian-American singer MOLIY for his latest single, “Comfort,” bringing together two artists whose music reflects Ghana’s growing influence on the global Afropop movement.

Produced by Nigerian hitmaker Ragee, “Comfort” is built around a buoyant rhythm, bubbly bass synths, and smooth vocal performances. The song blends Afrobeats, dancehall, hip-hop and R&B while staying close to the laid-back energy that has long defined Mr Eazi’s sound.

The record continues the evolution of Banku Music, the fusion of Ghanaian and Nigerian musical influences that became closely associated with Mr Eazi’s rise.

“This is an updated version of my signature sound,” Mr Eazi says of “Comfort,” which was recorded while he was in London this summer. “I’m making gyal dem music—sweet, easy, flattering gyal dem music.”

For Mr Eazi, the Ghana connection behind the collaboration goes much deeper than the presence of a Ghanaian artist on the record. Born in Nigeria, Mr Eazi moved to Ghana to study at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi. It was during this period that his music career began to develop and the foundations of what would become Banku Music started to take shape.

His early collaborations with Ghanaian musicians were instrumental to that journey. “Bankulize,” featuring Pappy Kojo and produced by Juls, introduced audiences to Mr Eazi’s distinctive combination of Ghanaian influences, Nigerian melodies and Pidgin storytelling.

He followed that with “Skin Tight,” his influential collaboration with Efya, also produced by Juls. The song became one of the records that helped establish Mr Eazi’s identity during his early rise.

Over the years, his creative relationship with Ghana has continued through collaborations with Sarkodie, Eugy and King Promise, as well as producers including Juls, GuiltyBeatz and KillBeatz.

Those connections have produced records such as Sarkodie’s “Anointing,” Eugy’s “Dance For Me,” King Promise’s “Dabebi,” and other collaborations including “Akwaaba,” “Pilolo” and “Business.”

MOLIY represents a newer chapter in that Ghanaian musical story. The Ghanaian-American singer has quickly established herself as one of the country’s emerging international voices, with “Shake It to the Max” becoming a major global success. Its remix topped the Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart and later made an appearance on the Billboard Hot 100.

That makes “Comfort” a natural meeting point between two generations of Ghana-linked Afropop. Mr Eazi helped introduce a distinct Ghanaian influence to international Afrobeats audiences, while MOLIY is part of a newer wave of artists carrying that influence into a global pop landscape.

With its easy-going production and cross-genre approach, “Comfort” finds both artists leaning into a sound that feels familiar to Mr Eazi’s catalogue while giving the collaboration its own contemporary identity.
