Ghanaian singer KiKi Celine has officially released her debut EP, Everything That Broke Me, a six-track project that explores grief, heartbreak, personal growth, and the journey towards reclaiming one’s sense of self. Blending Afro-Soul and R&B, the EP is an intimate introduction to an artist using personal pain as the foundation for a story of healing and renewal.
Rather than presenting six disconnected songs, KiKi Celine builds the project around a continuous emotional journey. The tracks move from the weight of loss and the fear of change to the freedom of letting go, the comfort of healthy love and, ultimately, the realisation that difficult experiences do not have to define a person’s future.
The EP begins with “One Wish,” a deeply personal song centred on the loss of her mother. Celine imagines asking a shooting star to bring her mother back, expressing the longing that can remain even when someone has begun to accept an irreversible loss. Its emotional starting point establishes the vulnerability that runs throughout the project.
That sense of uncertainty continues “Oh Fear,” featuring Ko-Jo Cue. The collaboration examines the paralysis that can accompany heartbreak, particularly when staying in a familiar but painful situation feels less frightening than stepping into the unknown. It captures the tension between wanting things to change and struggling to take the first step forward.
The mood begins to shift with “No Restrictions,” where Celine embraces independence and breaks away from toxic relationships and the limitations she has placed on herself. The song represents a turning point in the EP’s narrative, moving away from emotional confinement towards the possibility of living on her own terms.
That freedom creates room for a different kind of connection on “Loving You.” Here, Celine explores the experience of love that feels safe, supportive, and genuine. Following the uncertainty of the earlier tracks, the song offers a softer perspective, showing how emotional security can change the way a person experiences intimacy.
Before reaching its conclusion, Everything That Broke Me revisits the struggles that came before the breakthrough. On “Suffocated,” Celine reflects on the emotional cost of suppressing her own needs in an attempt to maintain peace. The track highlights the difficulty of recognising when compromise has gone too far and when preserving a relationship means neglecting oneself.
The title track, “Everything That Broke Me (E.T.B.M.),” brings the six-song journey to a close. Instead of treating pain as evidence of defeat, Celine reframes her experiences as part of what has made her stronger. The closing statement brings together the EP’s central ideas, transforming grief, doubt, and heartbreak into a reflection on survival and personal reclamation.
Across the project, vulnerability and empowerment exist side by side. The emotional weight of its opening songs gives the later moments of freedom and love greater significance, making the EP feel like a gradual process of coming to terms with the past rather than an instant transformation.
With Everything That Broke Me, KiKi Celine marks an important milestone in her career, introducing a body of work that places storytelling and emotional honesty at its centre. Its blend of Afro-Soul and R&B provides a fitting backdrop for a narrative that moves through some of life’s most difficult experiences while leaving space for hope.
Now available on major streaming platforms, the debut EP presents KiKi Celine as an artist willing to confront uncomfortable emotions and find meaning in the process. Everything That Broke Me ultimately suggests that the experiences that hurt us can also become part of the foundation on which we rebuild ourselves.
