Ghanaian gospel minister and recording artiste Joyce Annan, formerly known as Maame Joyce, brought worship, nostalgia, and celebration to the latest edition of Onua Showtime with Nana Ama McBrown with a powerful live performance that connected with audiences in the studio and viewers around the world.

The appearance came at a significant moment in Joyce Annan’s musical journey as she celebrates 20 years of gospel music ministry while embracing a new chapter under her married name. Her time on the popular entertainment programme gave her the opportunity to introduce her latest worship single, “Beautiful Jesus,” while also revisiting some of the songs that have shaped her career.

Seated alongside fellow panellists including Nii Noi, Kobby Kyei and other members of the show’s panel, Joyce Annan brought a distinctly gospel-focused energy to the programme. The atmosphere changed as she took the stage, delivering a series of live performances that drew enthusiastic reactions from those present and audiences watching from different parts of the world.

Her performance of “Beautiful Jesus” offered a glimpse into the message behind her latest release. The worship song centres on the beauty, majesty and love of Jesus Christ, reflecting Joyce Annan’s desire to use music as a means of leading listeners into genuine worship and a deeper relationship with Christ.

The performance also became a journey through Joyce Annan’s musical history. She revisited some of the songs that have remained closely associated with her ministry, creating moments of nostalgia for listeners who have followed her music from its earlier years.

Among the songs performed were “Nhyira” and “Yesu Tɔ Me Abɔden,” both from her debut nine-track album released in 2007. Hearing the songs again after so many years provided a reminder of how long Joyce Annan has been part of Ghana’s gospel music landscape.

The appearance therefore became more than a promotional performance for a new single. It served as a celebration of two decades of ministry, allowing Joyce Annan to look back at where her musical journey began while also introducing audiences to the next chapter of her work.

Joyce Annan’s connection with gospel music dates back to her childhood, when she became involved in school activities and active service within the Ghana Apostolic Church. Her vocal abilities eventually led to opportunities to minister alongside celebrated gospel artiste Obaapa Christy, opening another important chapter in her development as a gospel minister.

She was later introduced to songwriter and minister Pastor Hammond Love, whose collaboration with Joyce Annan played an important role in the beginning of her recording career. That journey eventually led to the release of her debut album in 2007.

Two decades later, Joyce Annan continues to draw from that foundation while developing her identity as an artiste and minister. The transition from Maame Joyce to Joyce Annan also represents a new personal and professional chapter, while her commitment to gospel music remains at the centre of her work.

Her latest single, “Beautiful Jesus,” provides a fitting soundtrack for this period of her journey. Its worship-focused message reflects the faith that has remained central to Joyce Annan’s ministry, while her performance on Onua Showtime allowed both longtime followers and newer audiences to experience that message in a live setting.

As she celebrates 20 years in gospel music, Joyce Annan’s appearance offered a rare combination of reflection and renewal. The familiar songs connected her present to the beginnings of her recording career, while “Beautiful Jesus” pointed toward what lies ahead.

With her latest single now available across digital music platforms, Joyce Annan continues to use her voice to celebrate Jesus Christ and invite listeners into worship, marking another chapter in a ministry that has already spanned two decades.
