Ghanaian Reggae and Dancehall icon Samini has officially released his eighth studio album, ORIGIN8A, a powerful body of work that reaffirms his place in Ghana’s music history while highlighting growth, mentorship, and musical versatility.
Described by the artist as a reminder rather than a reinvention, ORIGIN8A reflects both longevity and contribution. “It’s been a long time coming,” Samini shared. “This is for those who just got to know me and those who’ve been here from the start. I’m an originator of something that’s here to stay.”
The 16-track album seamlessly blends Reggae, Dancehall, Afrobeats, and lover’s rock — a sound palette that has come to define Samini’s mature creative phase. The project features notable collaborations with Stonebwoy, KiDi, Kweku Flick, and the internationally acclaimed Soweto Gospel Choir, alongside longtime collaborator and producer Master Garzy.
In a testament to his commitment to quality, Samini revealed that although he recorded over 200 demos, only 16 songs made the final cut. “I like to release albums two years apart,” he explained. “I sieve what’s worthy of the people.”
One of the album’s standout moments is the cross-border collaboration with the Soweto Gospel Choir. Recorded remotely, Samini crafted the original melody while the choir contributed a powerful Swahili chorus translating to “Africa Shine,” adding a pan-African depth to the project.
Beyond the music itself, Samini also reflected on his evolved approach to promotion. Moving away from aggressive marketing tactics, he now embraces a more measured and confident rollout strategy. “If the music is good, people will come for it. You don’t need to over-hype juice.”
With over two decades in the industry — spanning the era of cassette tapes to today’s digital streaming platforms — Samini views ORIGIN8A as proof that longevity, relevance, and evolution can coexist. “I’m still here,” he said. “Still performing, still creating, still being accessed.”
ORIGIN8A is now available on all major streaming platforms.
