- AFRIMMA Nominee Njerae Reunites With Kaycyy On “On My Own” And Opens A New Emotional Chapter With “Let Them Know”
- Fresh off a 2026 AFRIMMA nomination, the Kenyan starlet presents a dual narrative exploring self-value and romance, marking a reunion with newly minted AWGE signee KayCyy after their 2025 hit “Far Away.”
Kenyan singer, songwriter, and producer Njerae releases two new singles, “On My Own” featuring KayCyy and “Let Them Know.” The two records showcase two different sides of Njerae’s artistry, one rooted in self-worth and accountability, and the other capturing the unexpected vulnerability that comes with genuine romantic connections.
Following their previous collaboration “Far Away,” Njerae reunites with Kenyan-born, American-based artist KayCyy for “On My Own,” a record that blends their distinct vocal styles and songwriting approaches to tell a story of love, mistakes, and choosing oneself. Reflecting on how their creative partnership has developed since “Far Away,” Njerae said: “Far Away was our introduction to each other creatively. This time, everything felt a lot more natural. KayCyy has a way of bringing a different perspective melodically and emotionally, and I think we’ve both grown as artists since our first collaboration.”

Produced by Vic West, “On My Own” is an emotionally direct conversation about privacy, respect, and choosing yourself when another person’s actions no longer match their words. “Let Them Know,” produced by Jaz Beats, Njerae presents a softer but equally honest side of Njerae: a confident woman unexpectedly falling for someone and deciding that the feeling is too strong to hide. “Vic West and Jaz Beats each brought something unique to the project, and that’s a big part of why the two songs feel so different emotionally,” she shared, adding that neither renowned producer tried to overpower the songs. “They both understood that the emotion needed to lead, and they built worlds around the lyrics instead of competing with them. That’s what made each record feel true to itself,” she noted.
For Njerae, releasing the two songs together was a deliberate way to make room for both emotional truths: “I liked the contrast. “On My Own” is about choosing yourself and finding peace in your own company, while ‘Let Them Know’ is much more vulnerable,” she said. “You can be healing and still have moments of vulnerability, and I wanted the music to make space for both,” she added.
The two releases arrive during an important period in Njerae’s career. Her breakout song “Aki Sioni” was the most-streamed song in Kenya in 2025, outperforming both local and international releases on Spotify’s national year-end rankings. The record has since passed 9.3 million Spotify streams, while Njerae currently reaches approximately 198,000 monthly Spotify listeners. In July 2026, she was nominated for Best Female Artist East Africa at the 2026 African Muzik Magazine Awards, AFRIMMA, a recognition that continues to show she is truly a Kenyan musical export.
On the other side, KayCyy joins the release during an elevating chapter in his international journey. The Kenyan-born artist recently joined A$AP Rocky’s AWGE creative ecosystem, further strengthening his position in global hip-hop and alternative music. He also recently completed his role as an opening act on A$AP Rocky’s “Don’t Be Dumb” North American Tour, performing alongside some of the most influential names in contemporary music.

KayCyy has continued to expand his global profile through collaborations and songwriting contributions with major artists, including his work connected to Kanye West’s GRAMMY-winning album “Donda”, appearances alongside artists such as Travis Scott, Lil Wayne and Lil Baby, and his contribution as a songwriter on Future and Tyla’s “Game Time”, the official FIFA World Cup 2026 track.
His continued ability to move between hip-hop, melodic songwriting, and experimental sounds has made him one of the most versatile artists emerging from the Kenyan diaspora, hence a great partner in “On my own.”
The year has been kind to Njerae, and these two singles are proof of that. Her last lap of the year will be filled with such projects and more musical performances.
