Ghanaian R&B and Afro-fusion star Gyakie has been unveiled as Spotify’s EQUAL Africa Ambassador for September 2025, making this her second time in the spotlight under the programme. The EQUAL Africa initiative is dedicated to highlighting and supporting women in music across the continent, and this month it celebrates the Kumasi-born songbird’s artistry and impact.

Since capturing global attention with her breakout hit “Forever”, Gyakie has continued to shape the African music landscape. She was recently listed on Forbes Africa’s 30 Under 30, affirming her status as one of the continent’s brightest young leaders. The daughter of Highlife legend Nana Acheampong, Gyakie carries a rich musical heritage while carving out her own distinct sound. Her long-awaited debut album, After Midnight, has cemented her reputation as one of Africa’s most compelling voices.

Gyakie’s journey began in 2019 while studying International Business at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, balancing academics with her rising career. Today, she stands as a symbol of determination, passion, and global resonance.

Since its launch, Spotify’s EQUAL Africa has championed women artists through global partnerships, activations, content initiatives, and off-platform support aimed at fostering equity in audio.

“At Spotify, we are committed to amplifying the voices of women in music, and Gyakie’s return to the programme represents exactly why the EQUAL Africa programme exists. Her talent, artistry, and determination continue to inspire a new generation of listeners across the continent and beyond. We’re proud to spotlight her this month as she takes another big step in her journey with the release of her debut album,” said Phiona Okumu, Spotify’s Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa.
