Ghanaian drill artist Reggie Osei, a foundational figure in the Asakaa movement, has crossed a major streaming milestone, surpassing 90 million all-time global streams on Audiomack.
Osei, widely known for blending Chicago-style drill production with Twi-language lyrics and raw narratives from the streets of Kumasi — often referred to as “Kumerica” — ranks among the top Ghanaian artists on the platform. His catalog places him 23rd overall among Ghanaian acts and 9th within the hip-hop/rap category on Audiomack.
Born and raised in Kumasi, Osei emerged in the late 2010s as one of the early voices shaping Ghanaian drill. Influenced by UK and Chicago drill sounds, he helped introduce the genre to his peers, contributing to tracks that propelled the Asakaa collective into the spotlight. He has released multiple projects, including EPs like Most High, Straight Outta Kumerica, and collaborative works that highlight the tight-knit Asakaa crew, featuring frequent collaborators such as O’Kenneth, Jay Bahd, City Boy, and others.
The Asakaa sound, characterized by energetic drill beats fused with local slang (“Saka” evolving into the genre’s name), street storytelling, and a mix of English and Twi, has gained traction both locally and internationally. Osei’s music captures the hustle, brotherhood, and realities of life in Kumasi while experimenting with smoother, melodic elements alongside hard-hitting drill tracks.
This latest streaming achievement underscores the growing influence of digital platforms in elevating Ghanaian urban music. Audiomack has become a key hub for African artists, providing direct fan engagement and global reach for emerging scenes like Asakaa.
Osei continues to release new music, including recent singles and collaborations that maintain his presence on Ghanaian charts. His work remains rooted in the Kumerica ethos while pushing the boundaries of Ghanaian hip-hop.
